Taylor County is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Law Library Director. The director will responsibly direct and implement all aspects of operation for the Taylor County Law Library and assists in management of the Taylor County Inmate Library by implementing the policies of the Taylor County Commissioners Court. This position is classified as non-exempt.

The single most important skill the librarian must have is to distinguish between the dispensing of legal advice-which is a crime per Texas Penal Code 38.12, 38.122 and 38.123-and helping patrons to help themselves by accomplishing effective research.

Qualified applicants must have a Bachelor's Degree conferred by an accredited college or university - some library and/or legal skills a plus. Two years of relevant experience is required; can be supplemented with clerical training or relevant additional schooling. Secretarial and office experience with increasing responsibilities. Skills to include various computer software programs and telephone/receptionist work. Organizational skills are essential. Typing speed: 55 wpm. Must be willing/able to become a Notary Public.

Opens office at 8:00 a.m. and closes office at 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday excepting mandated holidays.

Manage, process, document, file, and administer all materials entering library collection whether in published texts or in online databases.  

Provide assistance to the general public, litigants, students, attorneys, inmates, and county employees in understanding and using legal reference services whether in print or in online data bases.

Approve library materials for purchase for TCLL and Inmate Library. Reviews core collection yearly for acquisition and removal of items. 

Maintain cash box and copier fees and gives monthly accounting and forwards collected fees to Treasurer’s Department. Keeps and files Deposit Warrants verifying such fees. Fees are collected from copies, faxes, downloading, sale of discs, emails and used book sales.

Must have the ability to work with and maintain confidential, sensitive information. The public and attorneys should be afforded some degree of privacy. Must have excellent clerical and customer service skills.
